How to Increase Website Traffic Without Social Media?
Meta description
Did you know that there are around 89,409 Google searches every second? People have questions, and they are searching for answers, but they aren't finding your website. What can you do to increase website traffic?
Many bloggers and business owners say that you have to use social media, but that isn't true. If you have ever tried to grow a social media account, you know that it is time-consuming and almost impossible to do.
When I tried to grow my first business Facebook page, I posted every day for three weeks straight. What was the result?
I got about 10 likes on my Facebook page, and it was all from family members. I could literally hear the crickets chirping.
Can you relate? Luckily for you, social media isn't the only method you can use to grow your website. In fact, it's one of the worst traffic sources to rely on.
How can you increase your website traffic without the use of social media? Keep reading to find out.
Write High-Quality Content
If you want to increase traffic, one of the best things you can do is add high-quality content to your website.
If you have a business website, this means finally investing the time to start your blog. Companies that blog generate, on average, 67% more leads than companies that don't.
If you already have a blog, you should focus on creating high-quality content that isn't anywhere else on the internet.
When you create low-quality content, you get low-quality results. Around 24% of blog readers say that low-quality content destroys a website's credibility. Google won't show your content to your audience if the algorithm does not believe it is helpful.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when writing blog content:
Know Your Audience
If you want to write amazing content, you first need to understand your target audience. It's impossible to reach everyone on the internet, and you don't want to. You want to find people that are interested in your products, services, and content.
When I first started my website, I had no idea who I was trying to reach. Because of that, I didn't reach anyone besides my family.
Are you noticing a trend here? At least my family members were strong supporters of my business. If you want to reach more than just your friends and family, identify your target audience before you do anything else.
Here are some of the characteristics you need to identify:
- -Age
- -Income
- -Career
- -Interests
- -Problems
- -Location
- -Education
- -Marital status
To help identify your audience, you can look at the demographics of your current customers, examine your competition's audience, and choose demographics that you think are a good fit for your website.
Write Helpful Articles
What are some common problems that your target audience has? Are they searching for solutions on the internet? If so, you need to publish blog content that can help.
People don't search the internet to learn what you ate for dinner last night. They want to learn what they should eat for dinner tonight. Even if the content is similar and you include a recipe, the second article is more helpful for your audience.
Focus on Long-Form Content
Did you know that around 7.5 million blog posts are published each day?
If you want your website to stand out, you need to write long-form content. On average, long-form content receives 8 times more page views and 9 times more customer leads than short content.
When you write long-form content, Google is more likely to show your content in search results because you include all the information. Google is always trying to give readers the best and most accurate content possible.
Long, detailed blog posts are more likely to rank on Google than short, general posts. Even if you have to sacrifice quantity for quality, doing so will increase your website traffic from Google.
Website visitors are more likely to share your content when they find it helpful. If you tell readers everything they need to know, they will share that information with their friends and come back to your website for more information in the future.
Start Guest Posting
If you have a blog, and you are writing high-quality content, the next step is to start guest posting. On average, bloggers write 1-5 guest posts per month.
Guest posts are blogs that you write for another person's website to gain backlinks to your blog, credibility, and referral traffic.
The entire first year of running my website, I didn't get any backlinks to my blog. I didn't even know what backlinks were.
I couldn't figure out why my website wasn't growing until I learned about backlinks. At that moment, a lightbulb went off in my head. I grabbed some coffee and started writing.
Within 6 months, I went from getting no traffic from Google to hundreds of page views per month. If you are reading this now, don't procrastinate when it comes to getting backlinks!
Increase Authority
If you want to grow your website, you need to work on your authority. Web authority is how much of an expert you are in your industry. You can use backlinks and high-quality content to increase your domain authority.
When you submit a guest post, you can link back to your website. If you guest post on a high-authority website, this will let Google know that you are linking to other high-quality content, which in this case is your website.
The more backlinks you get, the higher you will rank in search engines. Ranking higher in search engines means getting more traffic.
Gain Referral Traffic
Guest posting can also increase your traffic by sending referral traffic. If you are guest posting on a website with a lot of readers, you can convert some of those readers to your website if you write compelling content.
If you choose the right websites to guest post on, their readers will also be your targeted audience.
How to Find Guest Post Websites
To find guest post websites, you can search the internet, find where your competitors are guest posting, and reach out to other bloggers/business owners. While it may be tempting to publish your guest post on the first website you find, you should be picky.
Writing a guest post takes time, so you don't want your efforts to go to waste. Look for a website that has high traffic, a similar target audience, and posts that are like yours.
Grow Your Email List
If your website growth strategies only focus on SEO and social media, you may be disappointed to find out that these aren't reliable traffic sources. Both SEO and social media algorithms can change at any time, and you may see your traffic dip.
The most reliable traffic source you can target is your email list. Your email list is a direct way to communicate with your customers, your biggest supports, and those that want to hear more from your business.
You never have to worry about the algorithm changing with your email list because you own it. Once you build the list, it is website traffic that you can count on for years to come.
If you don't already have an email list, start collecting emails today. The best way to do this is to incentivize readers to sign up. Around 53% of bloggers offer freebies when someone signs up for their email list.
You can offer freebies, discounts, or share information in exchange for signing up. You can choose to offer these freebies on your website, or send readers to a landing page to enter their information.
Once you start building your list, send out newsletters to inform readers of new blog posts, products, or what is going on in the company. This will encourage your readers to visit your website, increasing both traffic and engagement.
Focus on SEO
Did you know that the number one traffic source for high-income bloggers is from search engines? SEO stands for search engine optimization, and it is one of the best ways to get traffic to your website.
Several different factors determine a webpage's SEO. Some of those factors include authority, keywords, brand, traffic, and how user-friendly your website is.
If you want to see traffic growth from search engine optimization, you should start working on it right away. SEO is a long-term game, so the sooner you start, the better.
Here are a few SEO techniques to start improving your website and drive more traffic:
Do Keyword Research
When creating content for your website, one of the most important SEO strategies is doing keyword research. Keywords are words or phrases that people will search for to find your content.
Because there is so much content on the internet, if you choose keywords with high competition, your blog posts will never show up in search results.
The best way to get traffic on your website is to choose keywords with low competition and high monthly searches. As your authority and website grow, you can target harder keywords.
Most of the time, short keywords like "dog" or "dog house" are almost impossible to rank for. That is because there are millions of articles that talk about dog houses.
To have a better chance of ranking, you should target long-tail keywords. You are more likely to rank for keywords like "best outdoor dog houses for winter" than you are "dog house."
Don't be afraid to experiment with keywords and think outside the box. You may find that wording a phrase slightly different can bring you a lot more traffic.
Study Your Competitors
Another one of the best ways to improve your SEO and increase website traffic is by studying your competitor's keywords. You shouldn't copy everything they do, but what is working for them?
Which keywords are they targeting and what type of content are they creating? The best way to find out is to research their best-performing pages and articles. You can use online directories to find their organic traffic and top-performing pages.
Analyzing competitor's top pages and posts can give you clues to the type of content you should be producing. You should look at several different competitors to see if you notice trends.
Optimize Your Content
When writing content for your website, be sure to optimize it for search engines. One of the best ways to do this is to focus on your keywords. Be sure to include them in the content, in the title, and in the meta description.
While you should write keyword-rich content, you don't want to have too many keywords. Having too many keywords is keyword stuffing, which search engine algorithms don't approve of.
Your content should feel natural and not like you are writing for SEO. Remember that if you write helpful content, you will do better in search engine rankings.
If you run a local business, using local phrases in your articles is a great way to optimize your content. Google has a location feature that helps people in your town find services near them.
Invest in Online Ads
Another way to increase your website traffic is to invest in online ads. If you choose to run ads, you may see a huge spike in your traffic. While running these ads on social media is an option, you also can run them on Google.
When deciding whether to run ads, make sure that you will make money from running the ads. Google estimates that for every $1 spent on ads, a business makes $2 in sales.
If your website is not yet monetizing, running ads won't be worth the cost. Be sure that you have a good understanding of your audience before paying for ads. If you don't, you may end up wasting your money on marketing to the wrong crowd.
The bad thing about ads is that to maintain the traffic, you have to keep paying money. As soon as you stop paying for the ads, your traffic will go back to its previous levels.
That is why it is important to take advantage of your ad traffic while you can. If possible, get readers to sign up for your email list so that they continue visiting your website even after you stop running ads.
Comment on Other Blogs
Did you know that commenting on other websites is a good source of traffic? When you leave helpful comments on other blogs, you are leaving a link back to your website.
If people find your comment helpful and want to learn more, they may click the link to check out your website. While you won't see a huge traffic spike from commenting on other blogs, it will be worth it over time.
Interacting with other websites/blogs has other benefits as well. You never know when having a relationship with other website owners will open up new opportunities for your business.
